Ankh Grasping Was Scepters II
March 15, 2008

I came across an interesting item in my web travels this morning:

Tuya's box with Ankh and Was scepter design, which I've magnified slightly...

We have seen the ankh grasping Was scepters at the Kom Ombo temple. From it, I'd made a modern version. It is interesting to see this theme again.

I felt a desire to make a stylized version. I began with an initial line version, and then colored it in. I hoped that its primitive simplicity evinced a power. However, I was not certain and asked Julia for imput. Julia looked at the two versions and saw Munch's scream and a turtle back. "It's just too vague, it could be anything." TOO simple, that's what I suspected.

So I got back to work...

This time she looked at it, she was satisfied that the Was scepters were more distinct and also saw the merger of a scarab overlay with it.

I like it better, too. This could be used for jewelry designs or tattoos, any usage that benefits from simplicity.

I created an inverse, imagining onyx and gold. Or it could even be simpler than that, a a cut out pendant that would look lovely in either silver or gold against a dark garment background.
