"A Little 'Alien'"
9:45pm

I'm trying to be considerate of you readers who just have the slow dial up. When a section accumulates a great horde of pictures, I try to start a new one, even if it's just been a couple of days.

Meanwhile, I have more pictures to share. Julia finally sent to me one she'd created on a very slow day at work. She was dismayed when she printed it out that it was so small, about the size of a postage stamp. It looks bigger than that on the computer screen, but not by much. She obtained rather fascinating results, despite having used the most basic of programs, the Paint program that comes with the computer:

Late last night, I did another weird 'automatic' sketch:

There appears to be both a side view and a front view of the lady's face. What made her hair go wild, I haven't a clue. Maybe she's a little 'alien'.

Earlier, quick eyed Julia noticed a familiar author's name in a Sci-Fi anthology at the library. I urged her to borrow the book, as I would at least read that story, if none of the others. It is War of the Worlds: Global Dispatches, and although I haven't read any of Lovecraft's fiction, I knew enough about his general subject matter to enjoy Don Webb's envisioning of the Martian Invasion through Lovecraft's eyes. It was fun to discuss the mysterious ending with her.

Perhaps next, I'll read 'Mark Twain's' version of the invasion. But for now, it is time for bed.

"Despite"
9:22pm

The pumpkin smiles. But I do not. It has been a grumpy day. The mood will pass.

Despite my grumpy mood, I made an attempt to draw something:

It is some of the plugs into the computer's UPS power stabilizer box. The electricity here in Yuma can have spikes and irregularities that are harmful to computers. So this box keeps the flow even.

"A Little Vitality"
9:54pm

While watching the interviews with the various athletic artists portrayed in the documentary Fire Within, I got the idea to sketch a couple:

Raquel     Gareth

Julia said, "You've captured something there, but her mouth is wrong!" By the time I decided to sketch her, I had less than a minute to capture her. She was looking at her boyfriend (husband?), so that explains her head direction. I had a little more time with Gareth. They asked him maybe four questions, so I had all that time. (Yes, I know I could have froze the screen, and captured him still.) But I got them both in motion, and maybe there's a little vitality for that. Maybe! Grin!

In any case, their performances during the DVD captures of Varekai certainly are full of vitality.

"Just The Beginning"
9:58pm

The house is getting a definite chill. I may need to shut the open doors and windows. Yes, life in Yuma does have its benefits in the fall!

Today was a day of work. But, oh, it was necessary. I had to get a head start on the week ahead. Soon, after the Marines are finished with their balls, the pace will slow to something more easily manageable.

But that's not to say I haven't made time for fun, even though this is just the beginning of the weekend. Julia and I did go see "Legend of Zorro". It was delightful! Oh, a completely pleasurable romp! Antonio Banderas proves that men in their forties can be sexy, and voluptuous Catherine Zeta Jones, they make a great team! Maybe some day I will draw a still from it.

I have made time for some artistic expression this weekend. I did come up with an image for Photo Friday's Delicate theme. I will admit, however, that I recycled a couple of old images a bit.

Then this evening, I felt inspired to pick up a pen and let my 'subconscious' guide my hand:

Embarking on an Adventure

I won't explain this image much except to say that the Set like snout and eye on the fellow's right side was the initial element. Any other symbolic portent I will leave mysterious. Though I will say I suspect the coming month of November (see calendar in pic) shall have its share of 'adventure'.

"Happy Halloween!"
6:56am

We found a cheap ($4.99) used CD at Hastings, "Music of the Vampires", and we've played it all weekend. I can't tell from the liner notes who created it, except that it was put out by 'K-tel'. Still, track number 2, "Trance Romance", is quite nice.

Actually, quite a few of them are interesting. The actor who plays Dracula hams it up a bit much, but it's not a bad album.

Anyway, I'm just stopping in to wish you all a Happy Halloween! Do enjoy all sorts of 'treats'!

"Midnight Ride"
9:16pm

This was inspired by a photo still from the Zorro movie. I gave the rider a different face, though.
