That's the picture I am going to submit to the Photo Friday's theme of 'Worn'. Notice the worn elements of the building. Notice, however, that the glass is not broken, and it is doing a nice reflective job. Tuesday, November 15, 2005
"Feel Much Better"
8:44pm
Taken September, 2005 in Old Town
This is very unlike the current state of the rear view window of our car. I came out last night after work to a very rude surprise, a completely shattered window! I can't imagine how it could have just happened. Yes, the hideous heat here in Summer can make tiny cracks that grow and grow until a crisis point is reached. But this window hadn't had such tell tale cracks, and it wasn't a hot day. So a mystery remains. I will be parking in a spot more visible to my co-workers and I in the future.
If brute force met that hard, brittle window, I hope the active agent didn't next proceed to a soft, fleshy human. Suffice to say, last night I was quite K'O'd in spirit, and Julia did the necessary doings of calling the insurance people and the police. I am so grateful for her calm taking of the lead when necessary.
But tonight I feel much better. It was the opening night of Ciao Bella, the new Italian restaurant. It is owned by the same people that own River City Grill, and thus all the nice attention to every detail is present. For instance, each light is different from the next. The owner said her own house was rather empty, as she'd used many of her own items in the decorating. I replied, "That's why it feels so homey!" I had Chicken Marsala that was among the most delicious meals I've ever eaten and for dessert, a thick chocolate mousse garnished with a mint leaf.
At one point in our leisurely meal, Julia asked, "Well, do you feel better than you felt last night?" I smiled, and said, "Oh yes, I feel great. I'm not fretting at all about the hole-ly window." (It does help that tomorrow they are bringing the replacement.)

"Pensive"
8:44pm
Pensive...
I must confess I had an easy model for the studious man: a stock photo described as: Thursday, November 17, 2005
"Learning"
9:50pm
Learning opens the gates...
Elderly gentleman conducts research in a library; large reference book in front of him; stacks behind. Motion blur in hand as pages are turned.
But there's a reason why he appealed to me. My new book arrived today. I've read through page 54 in The Mechanics of Ancient Egyptian Magical Practice by Robert K. Ritner, and now Julia is reading it, thoroughly captivated. It's fascinating reading. One chapter is called, "Spitting, Licking and Swallowing". He does indeed have an "engaging prose style".
I've mostly slept today. I've been under siege by a sinus headache, but I'm beginning to get the upper hand. I don't like the picture I came up with for the Friday Illo theme of Free. Her mouth is wrong, her hand is wrong, I just don't like it, except for the butterfly: Saturday, November 19, 2005
"The Upper Hand"
10:21pm
I did that image by looking at various images at the stock photography site and assembling bits and pieces of them together. A process which only utilizes the intellectual aspects rarely satisfies me. On the other hand, this intuitive effort below pleases me much more:

But that's just it. I'm learning as I go, each day, something new.Forward...
