"Welcome Respite"
8:30pm

The gray sky was such a welcome respite from the intense sun glare. We took advantage of it and the relatively cool air. First to Micheals' to get much needed Micron pens. I got five of the favored 05 size, and one of the 08 which makes thicker lines. While there, I saw some watercolor pencils and got a set, to experiment. I also got an assortment of art papers. All look good except the one for pen and marker. Too thin! Even the computer paper is better than that! Of course, I have at least upgraded to the best computer paper, so it has a better thickness and brightness. But the rest look good. The bristol will be especially good for the colored pencil, not too much texture. And I got some of the watercolor paper.

I experimented with a quick spontaneous drawing:

I'm pleased. Now I have a different expression to add to my styles. I now know just a little water in the brush is best, and to make broad strokes across large areas to get a smoother effect.

While seeking a good place for those watercolor pencils, I opened a drawer that Laura had used for storage, and found a whole box of Micron pens, all sizes! A strange sort of sign. Even though they are now four years old, they've been in a sealed container, so maybe they are still good.

"Raindrops"
12:01am

"Catching raindrops on her tongue..."
©JAL, 6-23-06

While looking at some illos for the theme of 'rain', an image flashed in my mind's eye of a huge long tongue sticking itself outside of a rain shelter and catching raindrops. So I used that cheap thin 'marker' paper, and let go with the 'auto' style. I ran out of room and had to tape another sheet to the first. In the scanning, I removed all evidence of that. I like the playful feel it has.

(Close call there, timewise. The original pen drawing was done while it was still Friday. But as I worked on the digital version, the time of the save ended up at 12:01am the next day!.)

"External Manifestation"
12:09pm

What am I seeing? Exterior shell of my manifestation...
It holds what is inside.
What dreams? Such dreams... just dreams... unless...
(larger version underneath...)

The only digital fix on this one was fixing my misspelling of the word 'manifestation'. For some reason, I'd written 'manisfestation'. Also, maybe the elaborate copy and pastings of the various sections to get a whole picture:

First I scanned the various sections, then reduced 50%, then pieced together for best fit. Then re-copied and pasted to get rid of the dark joining lines.

"A Busy Place"
6:29pm

Oh, the great humidity that met me when I exited this morning to do the wash! The clothes just smelled way more stinky than they usually do. They weren't any more dirty than usual, they just smelled it. Sweat drips off me. I checked our humidity, and Florida's humidity, to see how we compare:

YUMA
111 °F / 43 °C
87 °F / 30 °C
Average Humidity 25
Maximum Humidity 46
Minimum Humidity 12
KEY WEST
88 °F / 31 °C
75 °F / 24 °C
Average Humidity 75
Maximum Humidity 88
Minimum Humidity 63

Forty six as compared to 88, our low being nearly equal to their high, I suspect our 'misery index' is higher.

We did go out this afternoon, and the gray sky was greatly appreciated. We enjoyed nice mellow conversation at the small Barnes and Noble gathering. Afterwards, on account of the kindly overcast sky, I thought to check the PO box and go grocery shopping. Julia was tired, so I did my best to rush about in the grocery store and grab things. Now we have fresh fruit, and bread, which we were out of. So it is a satisfying feeling to look at the fruit shelf and see bananas, apples, avocados and tomatoes. I also got a blueberry pie. and two small watermelons, (they were 2 for the price of one..

Before we left, I did an experimental drawing:

As I have been covering my physical aspects in detail via those self portraits, in constrast this seems to cover the spiritual aspects. Just after I finished yesterday's self portrait, with the words, "What am I seeing? Exterior shell of my manifestation. It holds what is inside.", I read some words on meditation, saying something quite similar, "You are not flesh but rather an energy being using a physical body to interpret and explore this dimension." So today's intuitive drawing suggests such a being in its physical house, built in 1958. 'Chez Moi', house number 1958, year I was born, is a 'busy place'. The computer represents communication with the outside world. Set, with attennae ears, rather than tall and squared off, declares his presence. I think the being below may represent Nuit, as 'ground of our being', with her passageways. Both the Power and the Mystery have 'space age' listening devices, the one with his attennae, and the other with her headphones.

"A Bit of Random Fun"
9:45pm

I learned from Marja-Leena, another of those involved in the self portrait marathon of a fun thing on the web. Typo Generator will randomly make images based on whatever you type and how it uses the results from a Google image search. I had fun trying various variations on my name and letting the generator produce its results. I played this game several times, and these are the best of the results:

"Manifestation Sixteen"
9:54pm

As best as I can figure, it is the Life Force (ankh) well rooted. Perhaps it is the 'crown chakra' at the top. What did I mean by 'manifestation 16'? I'm not sure. Julia pointed out that 16 features in the hexadecimal system. The html color code is hexadecimal. It's why after the 0-9, it then goes to a-f to finish the range of increasing intensities. So perhaps this is meaning the 'fullest' manifestation, as 'f' is 'fullest' expression of the color element. There's a bit of 'lotus sniffing' here, a thing the ancient Egyptians used to symbolize intake of the life force.

I might color this later.

"Two Mirrors and I"
8:29pm

Larger underneath, even larger 1024x768 here

Because these weren't mirrored directly of me, but interacting with another mirror, it felt like I was sketching someone else other than myself, almost. Almost.

"New Glasses and I, Eye, Yi-i-i-i!"
8:29pm

Horus needing 'progressive trifocals'? About as likely as Set needing Viagra!

Somehow one ear piece of my glasses came off last Sunday. I was gonna still try and wear them anyway, at the gathering. But being they lacked that earpiece, they lacked the stability necessary to stay on my face. They fell, and broke. It is a way of just making it imminent what I'd been merely thinking about doing. I *needed* new glasses, and thought about it often. Every time I threaded a needle, with the increasingly tinier holes, I knew I was postponing the inevitable.

But it is the way of stasis to just THINK about something and never do it. Chaos comes in, and viola, no more stasis.

So I did the necessary thing, and now in seven to ten days, I will have new spectacles. Wow, getting old is expensive. Gone are the days when I could just do single vision glasses, one clear and one sunglasses, for under $150 bucks. Not any more. Oh, those nice days of perfect close vision, when I could look through the correction for distance viewing and still see clearly. Actually that began to go around age 32, it just felt weird to look through them. Then only awful distortion, and worse and worse as the years went by. So I answered the problem by just not wearing the far away vision glasses, unless I was driving or watching a movie. But then those needle holes began getting awful tiny and awful fuzzy. I've been knowing I needed reading glasses. But then I knew that meant new kinds of inconvenience, I'd have to take off the reading glasses to see anything 2 feet beyond me. And the distance would still be fuzzy.

So I decided on the best quality seamless trifocals for the clear ones, which have a wider section for near vision, and the basic seamless trifocals for the sunglasses. I hemmed and hawed, and then thought, well, I can't even go to the ATM with my sunglasses, without having to take them off to use the machine, so they might as well be trifocal too. So that's THAT! I didn't pick cheapie frames. I'd have liked wider bigger frames, but they didn't have any of those except in the cheapies. And I sure wasn't gonna put expensive lenses in cheapie frames, just to have them be so fragile. Therefore I picked a midrange one, which has the plastic front piece, but wire earpieces, with I think a spring in them for greater strength.

Seven to ten days, that's how long I have to wait for the 'miraculous' new vision.

First version of "Midnight Meeting"...

"Midnight Meeting II"
9:05pm

Midnight meeting between 'the Lady of the Lake' and a sort of Shiva/Neptune/Set, who is tempting her...
(his billowing hair suggests thunderclouds...)
He seems to be saying, "I got such a deal, you and I, we could be so fertile... Don't you want my sexy deal?"
