"Super Freak"
3:55pm

This is the scene of destruction we saw this morning in Old Town:

It used to be an area set up for town festivals. The best picture I have of it doesn't show very much, but you can sort of make out a small band playing on a covered stage:

However all that has been taken out so traffic will be able to flow freely. The merchants down town were of the opinion that they weren't getting as much business since it had been built up. I guess we'll find out if they were right.

But we weren't there just to look at the destruction. We were there to see a movie. Little Miss Sunshine is an uproarously delightful movie. A young girl gets first place in her regional beauty contest by default, and she and her whole disfunctional family head to California in a van for the 'Little Miss Sunshine' beauty pageant, in which all the first place winners from all the regional contests go. This family put the 'D' in disfunctional. But they all pull together, despite all the difficulties and manage to get her there. She's not like the artificially powdered, painted and polished performers there. She's got her own unique style. "She's a SUPER FREAK!" as the lyrics to her song say. And we laugh and cheer for her. This movie is a total delight. Julia and I give it four thumbs up, way, way up.

"Super Freak II?"
7:02pm

It's been quite a while since I did a new Set drawing. I figured it was about time. I figured I'd do something a little different than the usual:

Set tenderly whispers words of love and lust into the lady's ear...

There's Egyptological proof of the above, it isn't just a well stretched imagination. J. Sainte Fare Garnot, a French scholar said via TeVelde that Set loves the ladies! Okay, he said it in FRENCH: "Grand amateur des femmes..." He said a few other things, but my French isn't good enough to decipher them, confusing, yes. (Page 7, Seth, God of Confusion).

Meanwhile, I have this rough sketch of Set gazing tenderly into the lady's eyes. I wonder what she's thinking?

That guy is pretty wild now - the guy's a super freak
The kind of guy you read about - in new-wave magazines
That guy is pretty kinky - the dude's a super freak
I really love to taste him - every time we meet
He's all right, he's all right
That guy's all right with me, yeah
He's a super freak, super freak, he's super-freaky, yow!
(Lyrics by Rick James)

Colorfully 'Freaky'
11:31pm

Set tenderly and COLORFULLY whispers words of love and lust into the lady's ear...

"Super Sad"
6:08pm

I often don't pay much attention to the 'entertainment' show that my co-workers watch at 3:00pm. It is usually gossip about the movie stars. But one sad news item stays in my mind. They showed the wedding videos of a young couple en route to their honeymoon, whose plane crashed. They looked so happy in the video. So I checked the story out further. Forty nine people died in the Comair crash leaving from the Lexington, Kentucky airport early yesterday morning. The pilot used a runway which was half as long as the one he should have used. "The Atlanta-bound plane lasted less than a minute aloft before falling a mile west of the airport, casting 50,000 pounds of debris and jet fuel about as it all burned mercilessly to a halt," the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.

The Courier Journal has a story with something about each of the forty nine people, including a picture of that young couple who never got to their honeymoon:

So young, so full of promise in that picture, and now...

Reminders of the fragility of life are everywhere. I want not to waste a moment of this moment I have.

"Adjustments"
8:15pm

Having done the digital fixes to my scanned picture, I tried to duplicate the efforts on the original:

It will fit an 11" x 14" frame perfectly...

Of course, it's not as smooth as the digital version, but for some reason, it looks choppier than it really is. Perhaps it's because the camera picks up subtle differences. Also, the center is a bit washed out because of the flash effect. That it looks cooler toned isn't due to the camera, but because I gave the digital version a slight yellow wash to unify the colors better. Still, it looks better with the teal background than it did without. So I'm pleased.

"Safe"
6:57am

The Friday Illo theme this week is 'SAFE', so this is what came to me:

She felt safe within her own little world, she didn't know about the world beyond....

I might change it and invert it, and do other things with it, but for now I have to get ready for work...

"Neat"
6:50pm

I've been finishing up things long left neglected today. After instruction via email, I was at last able to get an order made for art prints. I also altered a tan skirt I'd bought a while ago. It was some doing to get that size 18 to fit my belly. Much easier to get the 20 and take in the waistband, as it isn't a major reconstruction project. You are maybe thinking, "Why doesn't she just make her own skirts?" Ah, but I don't want to take the time to do that. Even with extensive alteration, ready made skirts take less time.

I was recently asked by a reader, "How do I find time to do all that I do?" It's simple. Along with not spending time on creating my skirts from scratch, I rarely clean. The pile on the table behind where I sit at this computer can get awfully high.

It had reached an all time high this morning, as I'd not cleaned out from our Orlando trip, but had just piled layer upon layer. However, today, I read an article which explained that all that clutter can cause "Slow-moving and stagnant chi energy."

I had a whole lot of 'stagancy' going on. So I finally tackled that mess. It is a historic occasion, the sight of the neat computer area, and I had to record this for posterity:

Pencils in the 'artbin' box, pens in the holder behind it...
(I don't know why the monitor looks blue rather than purple)

How long will it stay neat? That's an interesting question...

"Self-Referential"
9:28pm

Julia took one look at the screen showing my journal entry, and said, "That's self-referential!", so I had to capture it!
