"Coin Collecting"
10:20pm

We went to the coin club meeting tonight. We made quite a haul, taking home thirteen coins. The auctioneer joked about the Belgian coin, "It ain't no good, it's got a hole in it!" Tonight's were mostly my picks, but Julia selected the 1862 Indian head penny. She also doodled the 'Pepe Le Pew' coin:

"One scent, circulated condition"

Pepe might be generous and give you two scents!

There were a lot of coins auctioned tonight. One lady wasn't paying attention on one coin, which I grabbed up for beginning price. She later told me, "If you ever want to sell that coin, let me know!" I, of course, have no such desire. Tonight's activity inspired my spontaneous drawing:

"Mine!"

As I was preparing the version that is intended for the 8x10 print, I decided I like the way the outer frame unifies the picture:

"Less Boggy"
8:54pm

Am I guilty of this?

"I also thought about the fact that when I write, I can get, yes, my brothers and sisters, just a little bit preachy. I could let the point be more implicit."
http://www.abgoodwin.com/newmoon/Old_Friends.html

Oh, yeah, I think so. When the webhost wouldn't let me into my website to update this morning, it allowed me to rethink a post for 'Tastings', and put it in the 'Markings' journal instead. Oh, boy, did I ever get preachy in that one, and I don't want preachy stuff in 'Tastings'.

I wonder if I should edit the interpretative items I put in the gallery about 'Where it is Always Beginning'?

On rereading it, it is not too bad, it is mostly saying the art is the dreamy experience.

Oh, the experience of the framings!
I've always gone the 'cheap and dirty' route. Well, not DIRTY, but cheap. I've bought the cheapest picture frames they make, and have been satisfied with that. But for my submissions to the county fair, I want and need better. The fine art work requires a frame with a wire hanging piece on back, no 'sawtooths'. Well, cheapie frames do not feature wire hangers. And a nice frame might cause my work to be judged more favorably.

I felt a strong urge that today be the day I take care of this task. It was a long, long, long wait while the people before me, a whole family, got a charcoal pencil drawing of an Indian maiden surrounded by various animals framed. The artist is sixteen years old, and maybe she's got an interesting art career ahead of her. But, oh, the wait, as they picked out various matts, with fancy colorings and carvings at the corners and a fancy frame and...

...I should have got my butt off the computer sooner and got there just as the store opened, as poor Julia's back didn't take the wait well. She slumped and then later hurt her back. She walks slowly, with her right hip jutting to the right, and her left shoulder jutting to the left. She had me put an 'Icy Hot' patch on her lower right back side, and hopefully, the soreness will go away soon.

Back to the framing experience. I got the four figured out, and because of overall good timing got in on a framing sale whereby I saved 100 bucks. (Yeah, it's that expensive.)

But I learned of a lovely new glass that is glare less and protects against UV rays. An 11x14 piece of it is just over 26 dollars. I now want it for all my prints and drawings! They said they can cut an 8x10 piece, so I could put it in a cheapie frame instead of the glass.

Anyway, 171 bucks for that glass, two nice wooden frames for 'Carnival Mood' and 'Where it is Always Beginning', and the nicely colored 16x20 matts for the two photos, a wolfie like critter which I believe is the arctic fox and the greenly path in the Seattle Zoo.

I should at least get an 'honorable mention', ya think?

After getting the frames picked out, we went to visit some friends of ours who we haven't seen in a long time. We had a lovely visit. Margo fed us tasty homemade cookies with anise in them. I nearly emptied the bowl! Not only did we have good conversation, Horst gave me a clue on my sluggish computer. He said it is often too much junque in the start up menu. After investigating, I found the 'Version Cue' icon in the icon tray that's at the lower right of the computer desktop, set to turn on upon computer start up. This is a program which came with the Adobe Photoshop suite, but I've never used it and don't think I will ever use it. So I told it via changing 'preferences' to stay off and get out of the icon tray.

I suspect I should now have a less boggy computer.
