"Quick Sketch of News Figure"
9:07pm
Singing a Spring Song in the Winter,
in the winter, the winter when the flowers wouldn't grow,
she's got the magic, the magic of Isis...
(Inspired by listening to song snippets by Regina Spektor, yes, I sent for the albums!)

We were watching quite a bit of news TV. First, we watched with horror the terrible wildfires in southern California, (I swear the air smells smoky even here in Yuma), and then caught bits and pieces of other news shows. Bodney appeared on Arizona PBS show 'Horizon'. I can't even recall what he was talking about, other than it was something that happened in Phoenix, because I was too busy sketching him. Only after a quick look at the news website, I learn he was interviewed concerning the Phoenix New Times Investigation. His interview lasted about ten minutes. (Reading current news updates, I've learned "MALIBU, Calif. -- Wildfires fanned by fierce desert winds forced the evacuations of nearly 250,000 people Monday in San Diego County...") And I guess I'm wrong about the smoke I'm smelling:

The dream I had Sunday afternoon came back to my mind. The nightmare freaked me out. The 'menacing omen' was felt to be a danger outside, but very near. There was a real sense of putting the shoes on so we could be mobile and leave the house if necessary. But, of course, I had no idea what it was about, until we watched the news last night.

"Diaspora"
So it is not obvious. Maybe this picture is not so good. But I present it anyway: |

There are some that hold to the idea that an artist's explaining their artwork is not a good idea. It either makes the audience lazy, so they don't bother to search and look for their own meaning in the work. Or that explanation means the artwork was a piece of, well it wasn't good enough to stand on its own. Maybe this is one of those pictures. I don't think I had 9-11 and terrorism in mind. I think I had the California fires and the 910,000 people who had to evacuate their homes in mind. Also, a bit of rune and tarot symbolism may have come into play. The downwards crashing arrow, the TIWAZ I used once before, only this time reversed. 'Strife and separation' indeed, as people are separated from their homes, carrying what belongings they can with them. Also, too, it reminds me of the tarot 'Tower' card, having a 'downturn in fortune', as one Tarot site explains. But I haven't a clue as to why my intuitive mind gave the one man two noses. Maybe because there is so much smoke, he feels like he has two noses to smell it all? I will not guess further, I think beyond this is 'overanalysis', another meaning for the downturned Tiwaz. Meanwhile, back to the California fires, Yuma has sent firefighters there to help battle the blazes, which are so far "zero percent contained". Also, local hotels have been filling up with fleeing people, and some have had to go as far as Wellton to find rooms.

"Leah Hirsig and the Visions"
From there, I found a photo in the public domain. It fascinates me. There's no explanation of the paintings behind her, did she create them? I did find in a Thelemic article on her, that she considered herself "the bride of Chaos". Ah, Chaos has many brides....
