"Another View Along the Trail"
6:16pm
It looks a bit like the Nile, except for the St. Thomas Mission in the background...

Horst (with a little help from Margo) gave a talk tonight about WW2, life under Hitler, and Communism. He's a very good story teller, with lots of vivid details. Alot of people can write well, but not tell stories well; he does both well. I came armed with a sketch book, hopeful to get a good quick sketch. I tried, but his thin, wirey body didn't stay still long enough. His feet, however, stayed fairly still, and so that is why you see a sketch of his feet!
He ended his talk by reading one of his short stories, a favorite of mine called, "My Window".

"Travel"
I don't know if I've shown you this photo before. I did a web search of the journal and can find no reference to the LA airport in which it was taken. |

|
I took this last year when I went to Seattle. I like it because it shows the transitoriness of life. Also, airports seem to have an unusual symbology in my dreams. As I explained last June, "Airports as a symbol of transition have appeared so many times in my dreams. I have given record of some of them. Others which I haven't spoken of concern the subject of astral travel."

"Old Time Travel"

'State property' indeed, for we were coming up on the Yuma Crossing State Historic Park

Once having paid our entrance fee, we could get a better look at that train locomotive...

She's a big locomotive, 93300 lbs. l't. (Lightweight)
224900 lbs. l'd. (Loaded)

It is powered by steam

This is the firebox which burnt the fuel to produce hot combustion steamy gases which powered the train

Patented 10.18.94; 1.29.08; 5.21.07
10.18.04; 3.26.07; 7.9.07; 7.16.08
Commonwealth Steel Co., St. Louis Mo.
(The dates did not look so unfamiliar, until I realized 1894, 1907, etc...)

I sat on a tiny square seat to get this perspective...
| I had fun with the Friday Illo theme of Superstition: |

from Wiki: "Breaking a mirror may bring bad luck for 7 years. To "undo" this, take the shards of glass and bury them underneath the moonlight. In ancient times, the mirror was said to be a window to the viewer's soul. If that mirror were to break, it would take time (or 7 years) for that 'cracked' soul to heal as 'time heals all wounds'." What is even more interesting as ANKH, the Egyptian word for "life" is also their word for "mirror". The artisans often made word pun of this, making mirrors ankh shaped. For instance, a gilded mirror shaped thusly was found in Tutankhamun's tomb. Similar type mirrors can be had today:
