"A Walk in Old Town"
4:45pm
I'd heard on the radio there was much Christmas deco in Old Town, despite the ongoing road construction, and I thought there might be some photo opportunities:

We found reflective surfaces everywhere...

You can see Julia's taller reflection to the right of mine...

Prickly Pear shop sells lots of mirrors!

This is crop of full size picture...

Christmas deco in Twigs storefront, along with a little bit of me ;)...

Cute Elven tailor, he has patched clothing and must need a raise like I do!
(Note next day...)
I added the two with Christmas themes to my little page on Christmas in Yuma. I revamped the page, making the thumbnails not so hideously small, and I found the originals of some images that had been mercilessly sized down, putting the 640x480 versions up. I couldn't find the original of Julia in her dress sleeves in Laura's old computer, but then found it on a back up disk. It was alot warmer that day, as she was quite layered today, as was I. But the Main Street scenes are still there to remember what it looked like before the road construction began.

"Thoughts on Power and Might and Laura"
5:54am
I woke up this morning thinking about the 'Dark Arts' book. Its author reminds me a bit of Laura, "Why would we pursue higher consciousness through a state closer to sleep (meditation) rather than farther away (i.e. excitation)?) (pg 151) Yup, that sounds like Laura. She didn't understand meditators and called them navel gazers. But she had an entirely different makeup than the average person. After her first heart attack, they tried to put her on bio feedback to learn how to relax. It didn't work. She became anything but relaxed. To slow her heart rate, she needed hard physical activity.
I bet this guy Shott and Laura are a lot alike in other ways, too. Yes, other things he mentions, yes, Laura liked things similar. She also had an amazing charisma. Some might think some of this falls under just plain braggadocio. Actually, not really. It's just different personalities need different things. Most meditators will tell you that in the meditation state they feel extremely aware, much more so than in mundane activities. Only the body is still.
But, as I said, Laura needed action. Even when the doctors advised she not exercise hard anymore, she couldn't give it up.
And so shortly after she went for a bicycle ride that fateful morning in July of 2002, she had that heart attack whose after affects took her away from us. But Laura was like that, she was built for action.
The person I drew for the Friday Illo theme of MIGHT might be a person like Laura:

Running hard with weights, the race gives him a sense of power
I made a quick sketch from three different stock photos combined together:

I already had the muscular ones in a folder, hoping they'd inspire me for a muscular picture of the god Set. But as I combined the first two, it looked to me like the figure wanted to run, so I hunted for a running man to try and get the head right. The long flying hair to me just gives it a feeling of dynamism. Also I just plain like the long hair!

"Remembering Earlier Days"
10:42am
As I go through old back up disks retrieving full size versions of many of those pictures, I relieve the memories of those early days Laura, Julia and I spent in Yuma. Here's pictures of Julia and Laura at Lake Martinez, taken January of 2002 shortly after we moved to Yuma:

Yes, there's even one of me...
I remember we didn't stay long there, because Laura grew too tired. But even though she didn't feel well, she wanted to get out and explore the area surrounding our new town. I'm so glad these pictures weren't lost. Once again, I'm reminded any camera, no matter its quality, is better than no camera.
