"Spanish Patio with Italian Sculpture"
|

Griffin detailing...
Notice how the two griffins facing each other are similar to this much older piece:

Door lintel with lion-griffins and vase with lotus leaf, Parthian; A.D. 2nd–3rd century
Mesopotamia, Hatra
Limestone; L. 172.1 cm
Purchase, Joseph Pulitzer Bequest, 1932 (32.145a, b)

He looks like he's serenading some fair lady near the window above him...

Orpheus
Cristoforo Stati also called Cristofano Da Bracciano (1556-1619)
Marble, Italian (Florence), late 16th - early 17th century
Gift of George Blumental, 1941 MMA 41.100.242

"Orpheus, famous for taming beasts with his music, is here shown entertaining himself, his body swaying to the sound of the lira da braccio. The statue was carved for the Palazzo Corsi, Florence."

"Built For Feed"
|

|
I added the caption when I realized the little critter would have to scoot around on his belly, using only his arms and hands to propel him! I'm thinking without speed, he might not last too long for the feed, so let's imagine he has a really thick hide that resists being attacked.
