"Beautiful Flowers"
10:01pm

I am feeling peaked, I hope I'm not coming down with the coughing and sniffling bug, but I keep coughing and wanting throat lozenges. Yet I am feeling peaceful and optimistic. And instead of regarding sad things, I want to remember the colorful flowers we saw at the mall last Saturday:

"Music to Ease and Please"
8:59pm

In late afternoon yesterday, I succumbed utterly to 'the bug'. I could not sew another stitch. I left work and went to Julia's workplace. I begged her to take me home before she went to get her hair done. Last night was the worst. My muscles, in particular the large thigh muscles, hurt incredibly bad.

But as the day wore on today, along with Julia's good tending of very garlicky gaspacho and later oyster stew, and tea and flavored fizzy water on demand, I am beginning to feel more human.

I distracted myself with creating a second mp3 cd (in between lots of naps):

Mostly Jane Birkin, some Faun, some Vega and a bit of quirky ...

Now, as I created that playlist image and now typing this wee entry, I am enjoying the results of my labor.

An interesting tidbit learned from one of the Amazon reviewers:

"According to sources on the web, the [seventeenth] song in this collection, Tom's Diner, was used as the model piece in the development of the mp3 compression algorithm. Thus, Suzanne Vega has earned the title, "Mother of the MP3."

"In 1957..."
9:13am

When we were cleaning out useless stuff recently, I uncovered this photo of my parents and maternal grandparents...
I took most of the specklies out of it, and tried to heighten contrasts a wee bit, full size underneath

My parents look so young and handsome then...
Also, I didn't have a photo of my older grandparents, so this was a good find...

"Sick of Being Sick"
5:51am

This flu bug is the worst I have had in a long time, maybe a decade. Without the aspirin, it felt like the fever would bake my brains. I think finally the fever has broken. But I thought that before, and the forehead heated up again. Having only one box of dwindling paper tissue, I've been re-using each until they're soaked. Julia found a cloth handkerchief, relic of the days before the easy boxes of disposable ones. So when the box runs out, I'll go to that.

I tried to amuse myself as best I could. We looked through our DVD collection. I found a Cirque du Soliel video of _Allegria_, simply awesome. Then Julia had a look and picked out _The Mummy_, with Brendan Frazier. The last time I saw that was before I had interest in Egyptian things. This time, even with my hoarse voice, I shouted out inaccuracies, "There were FOUR canopic jars, not FIVE!" Must have got myself hoarse, for I lost my voice, and could only whisper after that. But it was a fun romp, I'd forgotten how fun.

Then we watched TV shows. The wild and clever Mythbusting dudes tried to disprove that a bullet from a gun fired straight up in the air could have the force on its return trip to kill or seriously injure someone. This would be so if the bullet did indeed go straight up. But that rarely happens, the bullet always goes off at a slight angle, and the bullet going off at an angle keeps its force on the arced return. Best advice, stay away from fools doing such!

I fell asleep on the next program, but caught parts of it. The 'Biblical Flood' was actually a Sumerian flood, much exaggerated in its retelling.

Then I went to bed. I awake with a sore back, having reclined so much during the day. I'm so thoroughly sick of being sick. It is such a complete bummer to have a nice four day weekend ruined. But at least I don't have to go to work today. Fool that I am, while yesterday and the day before, I was much too sick, I would probably try to go to work today. And I really do need to rest, for I am still coughing and sweating alot.

I just hope I can rest while watching a couple of the new movies out in the theaters. Maybe not today, though...

Later note:
Well, maybe it wasn't a _decade_, I found reference to being "excruciatingly" sick March of 2003. And in December of 2000, seven years ago, I had it bad. Rather recently, just over a year ago, I had a different kind of bug, but still awful. Maybe it just feels like this time is 'worst ever', those memories having faded.

"Bah Humbug"
9:18am

I went on Flickr with a search for 'bah humbug', and didn't have to go through very many pages to find inspiration.

Original cat with hat...

Original grumpy dog...

Dog with hat...

I hope you are having a better Christmas than I am. The CNN TV reporters tell us "Tens of thousands of people don't have power" and thousands are stranded at airports, their flights cancelled due to weather. I hope you aren't (weren't) one of them. And stay well, too!

I'm going to return to my reclining post at the sofa now...

"In Between Napping"
3:25pm

In between napping, I look around at my surroundings, the texture of the weave on the sofa, the hummingbirds outside ever in motion, heads bobbing into the feeder holes, and Julia. She was shelling pistachios, and there was just something beautiful about that moment. I captured it with the camera, and after some more napping, attempted the close up of her hands:

Later, after some more napping, I hope to color this...

"Bah Humbug II"

Model for this displeased man
It is interesting to see how the face changes shape under the influence of emotion...

(P.S. I wake feeling quite a bit better today. Won't be running races, but definitely on the mend...)

"Busy Julia and A Quirky Drawing"
7:02pm

Just a quick sketch of Julia shelling pistachios from the larger view photo...
I might work this up into a serious picture some day....

Now she is busy trying to figure out why her Excell program no longer works on her ancient computer, (ancient meaning it has Windows 98 on it, and I think it was bought in 2000?). She's tried all sorts of things, to no avail. It's bad because she does so many things with that, including balance our checkbooks.

And my much stressed computer has a 'corrupted JIT controller'. From what I could gather at Wiki, it has something to do with making lots of different files be used smoothly. I do strain this beast to its utmost, running many different programs at the same time, and it's been running a little slower than it used to.

A little later...

Just an odd little drawing...

The sleekly elegant timeless lady knows the ball is in her court...

"Hell Has Frozen Over"
6:46am

The house is cold, despite the heat running. (Electric heat doesn't do so well when it's really cold. Okay, those in northern climes won't think 52 F (11C) is that cold, but to us that feels COLD!) Officially 39 F (4C) was yesterday's low.

Hell has truly frozen over, for we are nearly out of tea. As Julia brought me my morning tea, she informed me all the black teas are gone, and we have only a bit of green tea and some herbals. You do remember the three shelves we used to have?

There's one store in town that sells loose leaf tea, we will pay them a visit this weekend.
