"Julia and I at Desert Picnic"

| Julia and I enjoyed a lovely picnic with friends out in the desert. We'd worried it would be hot, but it was breezy and cool: |

"Things Found While Searching for Other Things"
I'm sure "Place <of Truth>" refers to Ma'at, which is also balance and connective justice, and "spirit" is Ka. The 'adoring' pose is this one:

"A Bit of Silly Fun"
8:37pm
"In Cairo a fine and perfect altar of black granite was found, dedicated to Set of Hauer, or Avaris, by this king {Apepa II};
it probably came from Memphis or Heliopolis. Now in Ghizeh Museum" From Petrie's _History of Egypt_, Volume I
"Apepa II" is one of the Hyksos kings...
My research is going slow, for I am easily distracted by other fascinating things!
I also found two references to Set in _Ramesside Inscriptions: Ramesses II, His Contemporaries_ by Kenneth Anderson Kitchen. One is giving homage to Set while the other is giving praise to Set:
5. Stela IV, Cairo JdE. 720220
(a) Upper Register/ Papyrus-umbel vase before a hippopotamus; no texts.
(b) Lower Register. Two men face each other, kneeling and adoring.
(i)Man at Right. Giving praise to Seth great in strength, Son of Nut, that he may give life,
prosperity and health for the spirit of the Servant in the Place <of Truth>, Penamun, [justified].
(ii)Man at Left. Giving praise to Seth the Beloved of Re, great in strength in the Barque of
Millions (of Years), for the spirit of his son Shedamun (or: Amen-shedu), justified.

It is quite amusing. The webcam designers have assumed we all have flat screen monitors. They've designed the cam with a
piece that is meant to hang over the back of the monitor. Of course this is useless for the old style monitor. What to do?
I tried various ideas until Julia remembered this lovely antique thurible we bought at an antique show a few years back. The pointed piece fits securely within it, and the cam is about head height.

"Small Drawing"
7:19am
I've been digging in this pile, which is why you've not seen much of me lately...

A little drawing of a stela fragment featuring Meretseger
I was going to use it for my project, but changed my mind, so I share it here...

I had a dream I was at work. (I should get paid for this!) At first the scene is the usual work scenario, same environment. A short and slender young woman with shoulder length dark brown hair and a very enthusiastic manner has a coat on which she wants appliques. At first it is a black and pale gray coat, that she wants a tiny patch sewn on her left shoulder. Problem of placement, for the coat has a pocket on the upper sleeve. We decide the diamond shaped patch will just fit above the pocket. Then next she has a coat which she will wear to sporting events. Or is it the same coat, but now it is medium blue and black? Above her right front pocket, she wants a phrase put in letters. I can't remember what that phrase is. I had great difficulty hearing her, and it was very frustrating. Above her left pocket, she wants the phrase "Give 'em hell!" This task is very hard, for I must create the letters. I tell her my sewing machine doesn't have a zig zag stitch, only straight stitch, and the edges may ravel. Next I dream I'm sitting at a round table outside of a small café, (Rather like this one in NYC, only it was on a corner), and eating chocolate donuts. The air is cool, nicely breezy, and I'm watching the activity on the street as I pig out on donuts. Then I'm back at work, and the lady's coat is waiting to be sewn. Only now it has changed color. It's a bright red now. I am hunting for letter templates. I'm sure we had some, but I can't locate them. I don't trust myself to do it freehand. I am cutting letters almost two inches high. Next I realize the question of zig zag or straight stitch is moot, for I am having to place them by hand, with blanket stitch. I wake up, waiting paid for doing work on a Sunday morning!
