Napolitano used to be our governor here in Arizona. Wiki explains "Napolitano was first elected governor in 2002, and was re-elected in 2006. She was Arizona's third female governor, and the first woman to win re-election. She was chair of two state Governors' associations and was named by Time as one of the top five Governors in 2005." She sure did a good job in Arizona. We miss her, but now she'll go a good job in this even more demanding role. I have an earlier sad attempt at drawing Napolitano, back when she was still governor:

There's a reason for its inadequacies. When I called this a 'quick' portrait, I meant it. (I timed this piece. It took seven minutes for the line drawing (no pencil pre-sketches, just straight at it with the pen), and ten minutes for the coloring. I didn't time the lettering.) Seventeen minutes for the earlier one, compared to two hours and twenty minutes for the later drawing, tells me if I want better results, I need to take more time! |
