We've been rediscovering Blockbuster's and the inexpensive rental DVD. Thus it was that I discovered the HBO/BBC ROME series there. We've enjoyed this close look at the time and place. For the most part, it is historically accurate, though they did fictionalize some of the characters a bit. To give it a true Roman flavor, besides hiring historical experts, they filmed it in Rome, and hired modern Romans to take the bit parts. Happy, we are, for I've learned the second season of this epic will be available one week from today.
